The P4s had a fantastic time learning about life in Ireland and America in the early 1800s. They were able to explore the houses and important buildings from each country and met some interesting characters as they travelled from Old Ireland to the New World. We listened to the stories of how Christmas was celebrated back then, the food that was enjoyed (with some children sampling the homemade fruit soda) and looked at how homes, the church and school were decorated for Christmas. We finished the day off making a Christmas gift card which reflected the Irish thatched cottages. It was a brilliant day out in the fresh air getting to know a little bit of the history Irish families a long time ago.
